The Books
25, 26 February 2011

Rushmore and Under the Radar, in association with Radio Active, present The Books, returning to NZ in 2011 by popular demand. For those who have seen The Books live, they know how much of an experience it really is and for those who have not —- they know it is time to finally find out.

Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong of The Books first began collaborating when they were New York City neighbours in 1999, creating what they considered 'pop music’. After countless lounge room sessions, through a mix of accident and design, the pair developed a sound that, over a decade later, still defies categorization and mystifies critics and fans alike.

The pair’s debut album 'Thought For Food’ showcased their now signature combination of acoustic music and electronic samples, while following records 'The Lemon Of Pink’ and 'Lost And Safe’ cemented the duo at the forefront of this exciting sonic experimentation. Today, The Books have grown to become one of modern music’s most genuine innovators. With the release of their most recent record, The Way Out, they’ve further grown their audience and produced their most accessible work to date.

…but don’t take our word for it, here’s what the critics are saying about their last record:

“The Books have found their way out of convention, and they’ve been kind enough to invite us all along with them” —- URB

“‘The Books’ first album in five years marks the most sophisticated collage yet from the audio-ransacking duo of Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong.” —- LA Times

“This first album in five years from aural collage artists Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong is immensely listenable, as serene as it is unclassifiable.” —- Now Magazine
